Interview with Stefan Seiler, General Manager of ARGO-HYTOS Germany
Some weeks into his new role as Managing Director of ARGO-HYTOS Germany, Stefan Seiler reflects on leadership, innovation and what it takes to create real value for our customers.
What role does innovation play for you? How do you plan to promote it?
For me, innovation isn’t just a buzzword - it’s a way of working. Especially in our field - mobile machinery and fluid technology - innovation determines whether we stay ahead or fall behind.
ARGO‑HYTOS is a company with a strong foundation in innovation, such as intelligent valves, control blocks, as well as state-of-the-art filtration and condition monitoring technologies.
I foster innovation by:
- Creating space for ideas - without fear of mistakes, but with a clear expectation: mistakes are okay, but making the same mistake twice is not.
- Connecting teams - innovation rarely happens in isolation, but where design, production, sales, and the customer come together.
- Enabling quick decisions – long decision-making processes kill good ideas.
- Combining technology and pragmatism – innovation doesn’t always have to be fancy. A clever simplification can be just as innovative as a digital product.
In short: We don’t innovate “to be cool,” but so that our customers can get even more from us tomorrow.
How would you like to make a tangible difference for our customers?
Our customers operate in highly demanding markets: agriculture, construction, and off-highway - where machines must function reliably in dusty, vibrating, hot, and high-pressure environments.
We make a difference for them through:
- The reliability and durability of our products - a true competitive advantage of ARGO-HYTOS thanks to robust filtration and system solutions.
- Smart technologies, such as condition monitoring or innovative valve controls.
- Speed and customer focus - whether in service, engineering, or the supply chain.
- Simplicity for the customer: reducing complexity, facilitating integration, streamlining processes.
My personal philosophy is: We must work every day to make our USP so clear that when a customer starts a new project, they don’t even look for alternatives - they automatically think of ARGO HYTOS.
That is my goal: not just to satisfy customers, but to become indispensable to them.
The claim of ARGO-HYTOS is “Everything Hydraulic. Beyond Expectations.” What does that mean to you personally?
To me, this slogan embodies a powerful combination.
„Everything Hydraulic“ means:
ARGO HYTOS masters the entire hydraulic chain—from valves and filtration to system solutions and sensor technology.
This is a commitment to quality that is recognized worldwide.
"Beyond Expectations“ means much more to me than just technology.
It means: We deliver pleasant surprises - with our products, our solutions, and our people. Because technology alone doesn’t set us apart from the competition.
The people at ARGO HYTOS do that through their expertise, their passion, and their commitment to improving solutions for our customers.
And on a personal note: I see this as a promise - not just to our customers, but also to ourselves. We don’t want to merely meet expectations; we want to exceed them. That’s my goal - and it fits perfectly with my leadership style.
In keeping with our markets: If ARGO-HYTOS was a mobile machine, what would it be?
ARGO-HYTOS would be a walking excavator - and by conviction. Why?
- A walking excavator is extremely versatile, just like our portfolio, which ranges from valve technology to filtration.
- It operates in difficult terrain where precision, stability, and intelligence are required - typical applications for our hydraulic system solutions.
- It is powerful, agile, and highly functional, just like the technology we deliver to our customers.
- And it demonstrates that with the right hydraulics, you can reach places and solve problems that are inaccessible to others.
If I may paint a picture: ARGO-HYTOS is a machine that is stronger than it looks from the outside, smarter than you’d expect, and more reliable than the customer anticipates.
